3Carleton Island Villa
Known as the Carleton Island Villa, this mansion built in the 1890’s was originally commissioned by William Wyckoff of Remmington arms and typewriter fortune, and is home to yet another Thousand Islands tragic love story. A month before the home was finished, Wyckoff’s wife died. Upon moving in, Wyckoff went sleep and never woke up, suffering a massive heart attack in the middle of the first night in his new home.
Today the house still stands on the tip of Carleton Island near Cape Vincent, N.Y. where you can see years of neglect eating away at the structure.
